When you enter your start/stop times, keep in mind the requirements explained in the following table.
Requirement |
Explanation |
You must enter time in the correct format. |
You can use only 24-hour time. For example, 01:00 (1AM) or 22:30 (10:30PM). Caution: Please do not enter 12-hour time. Any letters in the time fields, including AM and PM, result in an error. If you enter 08:00 when you mean 8PM, e-timecard interprets your entry as 8AM. e-timecard automatically fills in any missing zeroes when you move to another field or click Calculate. For example, if you enter 9, e-timecard converts this to 09:00. |
You must enter a start time. |
You can enter only a start time on a line, but you cannot enter only a stop time. So, if you enter a stop time on a line with a blank start time then click OK or Calculate, e-timecard prompts you to enter a start time. |
Your start/stop entries cannot be equal. |
You cannot enter the exact same times for both start and stop on the same line. |
Your start/stop entries cannot overlap. |
Let’s say that you make these entries for one day: start 08:00, stop 10:00 start 09:00, stop 11:00 The second start time would produce an error message, because it comes before the first stop time. Your second start time would have to be 10:00 or later to avoid an overlap error. |
If your stop time is earlier than your start time, e-timecard counts it toward the next calendar day. |
In this example, you make these entries for 08/01: start 20:00, stop 04:00 Because the stop time is earlier than the start time, e-timecard assumes that it is for the next calendar day. In other words, it interprets the stop time as 04:00 on 08/02 and the clock hours as six. Thus, your earliest stop time for 08/02 must be after 04:00 AM in order to avoid overlapping. |
For each day, you must enter start/stop times in the order that they occurred. |
Although entering start/stop times in the incorrect order does not in and of itself lead to an error message, it may cause problems as the program interprets whether your entries overlap or if any of them should count toward the next calendar day. The following example is correct, because the entries are in chronological order. start 08:00, stop 9:00 start 10:00, stop 13:00 The following is incorrect. start 10:00, stop 13:00 start 08:00, stop 9:00 |
