Designating alternate approvers

e-timecard allows each company to choose how many approvals it requires as well as which levels in the organization structure the approval can come from. Time cards require at least one approver, but the company can select up to four. Your e-timecard administrator sets these approval options.

The Approval View screen lets you view all time cards for employees who you are authorized to approve, based on the selections that your e-timecard administrator makes. This includes not only your “own” time cards, but also those that you are authorized to approve in situations where the regular approver cannot perform the approval. When applicable, the Delegated By column tells you the name of the approver who delegated time cards to you.

The Delegate Approval screen lets you, rather than your e-timecard administrator, designate alternate approvers. You can delegate your approval for an extended period of time, or you can even make it permanent. If another approver uses this method to designate you as an alternate approver, then you can use the Approver dropdown list on the Approval View screen to view delegated time cards for a specific approver, or to view all time cards that you are authorized to approve, including delegated ones.

Hint: If you use the Delegate Approval screen to designate alternate approvers, keep in mind that the alternate approver will see your name in the Approver dropdown list throughout the delegation, even if it’s permanent. Thus, you will need some method outside e-timecard to alert each other during shorter, temporary delegations. Email is one possibility.
