What are standard codes?

All employees that you attach to the same employee type have similar benefits or deductions. For example, all full-time employees may have vacation and sick leave. e-timecard lets you identify all standard deduction, earning, and benefit codes for a particular employee type. Once you define standard codes and their effective dates, new employees you create that belong to the employee type automatically receive the standard codes.

Example

Our demo company has full-time employees (employee type FT) who receive the following benefits.

Benefit

Earning code

Vacation

VAC

Sick

SICK

Holiday

HOL

When you enter the three earning codes as standard codes, along with the effective date for each code, e-timecard automatically creates them for any employee that you attach to the FT employee type.

If a standard code does not fit the majority of employees who are attached to the employee type, then you can create the code manually on an as-needed basis on the Employee Earning Codes screen.

Hint: You can choose to allow employees access to all standard codes for their employee type when they perform a lookup in time card entry. This way, if you define a standard code after you create an employee, you won’t have to manually add the code in Employee Earning Codes for the employee to have access to it.
